Still a lot better than the sequel that appeared just recently, but not quite as good as I remembered it to be. The premise is fun, copying the structure of a prison camp movie and moving it to a chicken coop, but some of the jokes were a little tired, and despite the edgier start, the rest of the film is quite a bit softer than I remembered. The animation is lovely, the camera work in particular is often spectacular, but the art style feels a little unadventurous. The pacing is slick, the runtime perfect, and the plot is fun. It's just that Lord & Park appeared limited by their PG-appropriate approach. I wish the film had been a little darker, it would've added to the long-term appeal. While the craft is definitely there, the comedy is usually not up to scratch. Such is the case with Early Man too, their latest full-length endeavor. It's a shame, because the stop-motion animation looks great and the premise could've made for a superbly entertaining animated take on Shaolin Soccer. The latest Wallace and Gromit film will surely please the franchise's fans. Personally, I've grown a little tired of the style. It's just a bit too childish and repetitive, and while I appreciate stop-motion animation there's too much focus on the technical aspects here, which takes away from the creativity. The result is a film that felt derivative from the start. The quality of the animation is top-notch, but the visual style feels outdated. As do the gags and inventions. The plot isn't very interesting either, the surface-level critique on technology is bland and the characters have hardly grown since their original inception. Vengeance Most Fowl is a relic, which is a shame because the budget was clearly there to do something more exciting. This just felt lazy.Read all
