Cute and impressive considering the film's background, but not strong enough to overcome all its limitations. The setting is idyllic and there are some nice shots, but most of the film actually feels like someone was panning a camera around inside a computer game, which is not what you want from an animated movie. The plot is extremely simple and the characters remain one-dimensional throughout. The film is also just a string of clichés, both narratively and stylistically. It's still a big step up from its US peers and there are some memorable moments, but I don't think the hype is entirely justified for a film this basic. Read all
