70s Westerns are known for being a bit more critical of their setting and portrayal of the idyllic cowboy life, Ulzana's Raid is no exception. It's a rather grim and often crude film that casts a dark shadow over the Apache Wars, where none of the parties involved come off looking very positive.
Despite some harsher scenes and a more critical undertone, this is still a very basic Western. You have a team of US soldiers tracking down some Apaches, amidst depressing landscapes, and that's about all there is to it. Be it regular ones or revisionist ones, Westerns just aren't my favorite.
