Plot: Giorgio Rosa is an engineer with dreams. After talking to his old flame, he gets the idea to create his own country, off the coast of Italy. He builds a platform in international waters and starts a little bar there. Pretty soon, people begin to flock to his little island. Italy isn't too happy with its latest neighbor though, and does everything to stop Rosa in his tracks.

A quirky comedy based on true events. The story behind Rose Island is bonkers and the makers were well aware, so they were smart to go with a more comedic approach. It's a shame the film gets a bit too political in the second half, which takes away some of its charm. It's certainly not all bad though.
It's mad to believe this actually happened, no doubt the film also added a bit of extra cinematic flair to make things more interesting. The political aspects are the least interesting bit, the comedy and romance fit the somewhat magical story better. Well-made, amusing, and intriguing, just a tad too long and uneven.
