A fun Yuen Chor spectacle. Don't expect the endless clatter of swords or the elaborate swooping of arms and legs here, Chor's action scenes and characters are a bit more varied than your average Shaw Bros production. I've always welcomed that little touch of fantasy that set this film apart from the rest, other than that this is another vintage Shaw Bros production.
Lord Yu is a formidable fighter, but he aims to be more than that. He wants to control and dominate the entire martial arts world. To do that he needs the Peacock Dart, one of the mightiest weapons around. The only thing standing in his way are two rival swordfighters, who'll have to put their differences aside If they want to save the world.
The performances aren't the greatest and the sets can look a little cheap, but the fantasy elements are inventive and they do add an extra dimension to that typical Shaw Bros vibe. It's not the ultimate Chor film, he has more polished films, but people who like his work will find a very worthy addition to his oeuvre here.
