musical journey pt7

Back again for another round of 10-track fun. This week's batch is quite diverse, leading us from classic trance and dance to the outer edge of the glitchy ambient realms, passing by a section of warm and melodic IDM tracks. So expect many tunes, melodies and wavy goodness this week.

1. 061. Tetrys - Huxley Dreams

   check the Tetrys album
   

   Great atmospheric thumper from the old days. Nice, warm bass and lovely synths draped over a dreamy melody. Huxley Dreams is a true classic in every sense of the word.

2. 062. Ability II - Pressure

   check the Ability album
   

   Another classic trance track that aged remarkably well. Boasting a rather trippy melody and slow but atmospheric basses, Pressure is a little known dance classic that deserves a bigger audience.

3. 063. Hecq - Demon Flux

   A rather atypical Hecq track, but arguably his best work to date. Awesome combination of subdued techno-like rhythms, great vocal samples and lovely, fuzzy melodies. 20 minutes of cheer bliss.

4. 064. AFX - CD-9#d

   check the AFX album
   

   A jolly little oldie from the time AFX was a little more than just Aphex Twin's acid side project. A cuddly tune, comfortable basses and just tons of cuteness. Great track and a great introduction to melodic IDM section.

5. 065. Anders Ilar - Ludwijka III

   check the Anders Ilar album
   

   A prime example of solid textured melodic IDM, delivering in spades. Sublime melodies, slightly glitchy background rhythms and heaps upon heaps of atmosphere. Gets me all warm and tingly, time after time.

6. 066. Lapsed - Part 11

   check the Lapsed album
   

   Blissful mix of eerie synths, rolling beats and crisp glitches, creating a cocktail of sound that seems to capture the essence of winter as no other can. The sonic equivalent of walking through fresh snow.

7. 067. Kettel - Mwoeb

   check the Kettel album
   

   Ultracute IDM track, sporting long, warm waves and very sweet vocals. The ideal track to recover from the icey IDM served by Lapsed, taking you right into the middle of summer laziness.

8. 068. SubtractiveLAD - All Ways

   check the SubtractiveLAD album
   

   A solid gem from the n5MD stable, taking us slowly towards the ambient side of the list. Great wavy melodies and captivating sounds all over, working the mind like a fuzzy daydream.

9. 069. Aphex Twin - Nannou

   check the Aphex Twin album
   

   The godfather of IDM, although featured with an atypical song. Still, one of Aphex' best and sporting a music vid that is nothing short of genius. Awesome track displaying AT's sensitive side.

10. 070. Cordell Klier - Apparitions 02

    check the Cordell Klier album
    

    Right before delving into ambient-land there are Klier's glitchy and crispy pleasures. Very eerie sounds, strong waves and extremely tight glitches that wave extraterrestrial patterns. Unique artist.
